What does REX stand for?

REX (Registered Exporter system) is an EU system that lets registered exporters self-certify the origin of their goods for preferential trade under the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP). The exporter states the origin on the commercial document instead of obtaining a separate certificate.

How REX works

Once registered, an exporter can issue a "statement on origin" confirming where goods were produced, which qualifies them for reduced or zero tariffs under the GSP. REX has applied since 1 January 2017, gradually replacing Form A and older certificates of origin.

REX and other origin proofs

REX is one of several origin documents in EU trade. For preferential trade with certain partner countries, exporters may instead use a EUR.1 certificate, and for EU-Turkey trade the ATR certificate.
