Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System, abbreviated as HS Code, is essentially a global agreed method for classifying or describing the type of cargo.
When products are sent abroad, an HS code is assigned based on the shipment's classification. The customs authority always needs this code for checks at border crossings. Furthermore, the code makes it easy for authorities to check shipments based on the description on the HS code.
The World Customs Organization is in charge of the HS code's upkeep and development (WCO).
