What does POL stand for in Logistics?

POL stands for Port of Loading, the port or place where cargo is loaded onto a ship, aircraft, truck or train. It is also called the port of exit and marks the starting point of a shipment.

POL in the shipping documents

The POL is recorded in shipping papers and contracts such as the Bill of Lading so that routing and tracking are unambiguous. Its counterpart is the port of discharge, where the cargo is unloaded.

POL and road freight

POL comes from sea and air freight. In road transport the equivalent is simply the loading point, the first stop of a tour, comparable to the point of origin. In the Planner Module from IMPARGO, that loading stop is where the planned route begins.
