What is an ERP System?

ERP, or Enterprise Resource Planning, systems provide cross-functional support for the business processes that run across an organisation. An ERP therefore includes modules for areas such as sales, controlling, production, procurement, human resources and asset management.

ERP data can be used, for example, to calculate a company's key performance indicators against its business objectives. By streamlining organisational structures and workflows, ERP systems help save time, money and effort, and serve as a central management tool for the business.

Modern ERP systems are typically delivered over the cloud and use technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning for intelligent automation, higher productivity and real-time visibility. Cloud ERP also connects internal operations with partners and networks worldwide.

An ERP rarely works alone: it exchanges data with warehouse, transport and partner systems through EDI and middleware. A TMS like IMPARGO connects to the ERP so orders, costs and statuses stay in sync.
