Danish Truck Toll 2025: Rates, Payment Options & How to Prepare

Starting 1 January 2025, Denmark introduces a kilometer-based road toll for trucks. The system applies first to trucks weighing 12 tons and above and later expands to include trucks from 3.5 tons. The toll depends on weight class, CO2 emission class, and whether you drive inside a Low Emission Zone (LEZ).

New Danish Toll for Trucks Starting 2025

Trucks Weighing 12 Tons and Above (from 1 January 2025)

From 1 January 2025, trucks that weigh 12 tons or more must pay a road toll when driving in Denmark. The toll depends on how much CO2 your truck emits. The goal is to encourage more climate-friendly transportation and ensure heavy vehicles contribute fairly to road infrastructure costs.

Trucks Weighing 3.5 Tons and Above (from 1 January 2027)

From 1 January 2027, Denmark will expand the toll requirement to include trucks weighing 3.5 tons or more. This is part of Denmark’s broader sustainability strategy to reduce emissions from road transport.

Denmark’s kilometer-based toll system aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 0.3 million tons in 2025 and 0.4 million tons by 2030. The toll replaces the Eurovignette and introduces a more usage-based approach where trucks pay depending on road usage and environmental impact.

How Much Is the Toll for Trucks in Denmark?

The Danish truck toll depends on three key factors:

  1. CO2 Emission Class: Trucks with higher emissions pay more. Learn about CO2 emission classes.
  2. Weight Class: Heavier trucks have higher toll rates. Find out more about weight classes.
  3. Low Emission Zones (LEZ): Driving in zones such as Copenhagen or Aarhus increases toll costs. View LEZ maps.

How to Pay the Danish Truck Toll

1) Use a GNSS Provider (recommended for frequent trips)

Install GNSS equipment that works across Europe or use an approved app. These systems track your distance automatically and make toll payment easier. View GNSS providers.

2) Purchase a Digital KmToll Ticket (best for occasional trips)

If your truck does not have GNSS equipment, you can buy a digital KmToll ticket online before you drive. Learn more about the KmToll ticket.

How to Prepare for Danish Truck Tolls in 2025

  • Confirm if your truck must pay: Trucks weighing 12 tons or more are included from 2025; trucks under 12 tons follow in 2027. Check here.
  • Understand your toll cost factors: Weight, CO2 class, and LEZ driving determine how much you pay. Find out costs.
  • Select your payment method: Choose GNSS equipment or buy a KmToll ticket before the trip.
  • Avoid fines: Late or missing payment can result in a DKK 4,500 fine. Learn about fines.

How to Manage Toll Costs with a TMS

Harald Zoller, CEO of Zoller Logistic, uses IMPARGO to optimize logistics for a large German furniture company. With 75 trucks under management, Zoller needed tools to reduce costs while protecting his service providers from financial problems.

“Cost transparency is the foundation of uncovering saving potentials,” says Zoller.

Using IMPARGO, Zoller calculates transport costs before contract negotiations. Afterward, updated toll and fuel prices are used to fine-tune the cost. This method helps reduce costs without damaging relationships with carriers and service partners.

IMPARGO tools also help identify savings opportunities such as alternative routes or scenario planning for toll and fuel changes. Read more about Zoller Logistic’s success.
