Choose Tour Type: Single-Day vs Multi-Day
Single-day tours and multi-day tours need different planning logics: Single-day tours must be completed within one calendar day. Multi-day tours can span several days, with stops automatically moved to the next available time window.
But the core rules never change: stick to time windows, avoid overtime, and create plans that work in real life—not just on paper. To make this easier, we’ve added a powerful new feature to IMPARGO TMP®: Single-Day & Multi-Day Tour Planning.
1. Tour Type Overview
Your chosen tour type directly influences stop scheduling and the handling of time windows:
Single-Day Tour: All stops must be completed within the same calendar day. Stops that can’t be served within their scheduled time window appear highlighted in red and require manual intervention, such as reordering stops, adjusting time windows, or switching to Multi-Day mode.
Multi-Day Tour: Stops that exceed their planned time window are automatically rescheduled to the next suitable time without manual adjustments. This is especially ideal for long-haul or extended routes.
2. Choose Your Tour Type
Follow these easy steps to select your tour type accurately:
Step 1: Enable Time Management Click the clock icon above the address input field to activate scheduling features. This automatically sets the default departure time to 08:00 the next day.
Step 2: Set Departure Time Clearly define when your tour starts.
How to activate Time Management and set your departure time
Step 3: Select Tour Type Depending on your logistics needs, choose either Single-Day or Multi-Day.
A. Setting Time at Stop Specify how long each stop should take, including loading, unloading, paperwork, or waiting times.
Step 1: Access Additional Options Click the (+) icon beside each stop to access additional options.
Step 2: Find “Time at stop” Slider Easily drag or manually set the time (see below).
Time at stop: Duration for all planned activities at a stop
B. Adjusting Time Windows Set customer-specific delivery or service windows for each stop.
Step 1: Access Additional Options Click the (+) icon beside each stop to access additional options.
Step 2: Choose Tour Type
Step 3: Find “Add time window” Button This creates a slot for “Time window 1” in this specific stop. There you can set the time whenever the time window opens and closes. If there are any time conflicts, the system will show. (See next section: Fix Time Window Conflicts)
Step 4 (Optional): Add a Second Time Window Click on“Time window 2” and set the second time window for this specific stop.
Set one or more time windows per stop
Note:
For Single-Day Mode: Optionally add a second time window to manage scheduling conflicts (See next section: Fix Time Window Conflicts).
For Multi-Day Mode: IMPARGO automatically identifies the next available valid window.
4. Fix Time Window Conflicts
Stops exceeding their planned time window will be highlighted clearly in red.
A. Single-Day Tour Conflict Resolution: You can manually resolve Single-Day conflicts by:
Adjusting or extending the stop’s time window/time at stop, or
Switching to Multi-Day mode for automatic rescheduling.
Resolving Single-Day conflicts by adjusting time windows
B. Multi-Day Tour: No manual action required—IMPARGO automatically reschedules stops to the next valid window.
Automatic conflict resolution in Multi-Day mode
Note: Tour optimization is disabled in Multi-Day mode; manual stop ordering is available via drag-and-drop.
5. Understand Total Tour Time
Total Tour Time in IMPARGO clearly shows the total duration from the departure time until all planned stops and activities are completed.
How Total Tour Time is Displayed:
(x Days) – Shows the tour duration based on an 8-hour workday. This helps you understand how many standard workdays the tour will take, making scheduling simpler.
x hr x m – Represents the exact total operating time, including all driving, activities at stops, and waiting times. This precise measurement helps in accurate cost calculations such as driver wages, vehicle costs, and additional fees.
Total tour duration displayed clearly in the Planner results bar
IMPARGO calculates Total Tour Time by including:
Truck driving time – the exact time spent driving between each stop.
Time at stops – loading, unloading, paperwork, waiting at each location.
Additional time per tour (manually added by the user) – extra planned buffer times for unexpected delays.
A. How Driving & Rest Time is Calculated
Calculation of driving and rest periods included in tour duration
IMPARGO considers European driving and rest regulations, which dictate mandatory breaks and maximum driving periods for truck drivers. When enabled, these times automatically add rest periods into your total tour duration. Note: Rest periods are displayed for accurate planning purposes but not included in cost calculations.Learn how to activate Driving & Rest Time Feature ›
B. Understanding Day Offsets (+x Day(s))
"+x Day(s)" clearly indicates the number of days since departure
The yellow-highlighted labels, such as +x Day(s), show exactly how many days after departure each stop occurs. This calculation includes all driving time, stop durations, waiting, and driver rest periods. It provides clarity on the progress of your route relative to your planned departure day, especially helpful in longer multi-day trips.
C. Time Window Scenarios Explained
For each stop, IMPARGO clearly indicates the timing status to help you identify potential scheduling issues quickly:
Scenario A: Normal Tour (No Issues) All activities fit perfectly within the scheduled window—displaying the Activity Window.
Scenario B: Early Arrival The driver arrives early, causing a waiting period before activities can start—displaying Arrival, Waiting Time, and Activity Window.
Scenario C: Late Arrival (Single-Day Only) When a driver misses a stop's time window—highlighted clearly in redfor immediate visibility.
Scenario D: Activity Duration Exceeds Time Window (Single-Day Only) When planned activities at a stop last longer than its available window—also clearly flagged in red.
This detailed breakdown ensures you fully understand your tour schedule, potential issues, and can adjust proactively—maximizing efficiency and reliability in your logistics planning.
