What does the Shipping Container Code (SSCC) stand for?

The Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC), formerly known as the shipping unit number (NVE), is a globally unique and non-overlapping number that is used to identify a shipping unit such as a carton, pallet, or container.

It enables for package tracking from shipper to consignee, is assigned once, and may be utilized by all parties engaged in the transport chain effortlessly. The SSCC also serves as an effective basis for recalls. It is based on the GS1-128 data structure, which was previously known as EAN 128.

The SSCC is composed of 18 numeric digits, including the check digit.
