What does HAWB stand for?

HAWB stands for House Air Waybill, a document a freight forwarder issues to a shipper when it takes an air-freight consignment into its care. It confirms that the goods have been received for transport to a specified destination.

HAWB and MAWB

In a consolidated air shipment there are two levels of waybill. The forwarder issues a HAWB to each shipper for their individual consignment. The airline then issues a single Master Air Waybill (MAWB) to the forwarder, covering the whole consolidated shipment.

What the HAWB is used for

The HAWB describes the goods, the parties and the delivery terms, and travels with the shipment as evidence of the transport arrangement between forwarder and shipper.
