What is Gross Weight?

The whole weight of a load is referred to as its gross weight. Gross weight in transportation includes the weight of the object being delivered as well as the package used to wrap it. The gross weight computation is determined by the mode of transportation.

The meaning of gross weight varies depending on the mode of transportation:

  • In the aviation industry, gross weight is the total of the aircraft, fuel, crew, passengers, and cargo weights.
  • It is the total of the weights of the real items and the wagon or vehicle for rail and road transport.
  • It is either the product and packaging weight or the container weight for sea transport.
