Freight Transport Association (FTA)

What is the Freight Transport Association (FTA)?

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) was one of the largest business organisations in the United Kingdom representing the logistics and transport industry. Its members spanned road, rail, air and maritime transport, along with the shippers whose businesses depend on efficient logistics. Its stated mission was "safe, sustainable and efficient logistics".

What the FTA did

  • Represented members' interests at local, national and European level
  • Kept members up to date on compliance requirements
  • Offered training to raise standards and improve working conditions
  • Published research, briefings and compliance manuals on the sector
  • Provided member services such as vehicle recovery and a supplier directory

The FTA is now Logistics UK

In 2021 the Freight Transport Association rebranded as Logistics UK, continuing the same representation and advocacy role under a new name. Older references to the "FTA" therefore point to what is today Logistics UK.
