Tracking truck driver status is a vital aspect of modern fleet management, ensuring real-time visibility and control over logistics operations. Advanced tracking systems enable businesses to monitor driver locations, estimated arrival times, and adherence to schedules. This real-time data helps in optimizing routes, improving delivery times, and enhancing overall efficiency. Additionally, tracking driver status aids in maintaining safety standards by monitoring driving behavior and ensuring compliance with regulations. By keeping a close eye on driver status, companies can promptly address any issues, provide timely updates to customers, and maintain a smooth and reliable delivery process.
1. Track Device Status
The Fleet Module enables comprehensive real-time tracking of driver statuses using the IMPARGO Driver App, a smartphone-based solution that supports order assignments, real-time monitoring, and driver communication. Once the driver is connected via the smartphone app or integration (Webfleet, Trimble, etc.), their status and current position are displayed, allowing for efficient fleet management and decision-making.
There are numerous reasons why you might want to track the status of your drivers in real-time:
Enhanced Visibility: Gain a clear overview of all drivers in the fleet, categorized by status and designation, making it easy to identify unassigned, assigned, and actively working drivers.
Real-Time Monitoring: Utilize the real-time map display to monitor the current positions of vehicles and track the movement of drivers as they progress through their assigned orders.
Quick Decision-Making: Expedite decision-making by promptly identifying available drivers for new assignments and assessing the status of ongoing orders to anticipate any potential delays or issues.
Optimized Resource Allocation: Allocate resources efficiently by assigning orders to available drivers based on their real-time status and minimizing downtime by ensuring that assigned drivers initiate their orders promptly.
Below you will find the current driver app statuses and the related color coding of the devices:

2. Filter Drivers By Status
Managing truck drivers is a critical aspect of logistics operations. In the → Fleet Module, you can easily search for truck drivers and apply filters based on their designation and current status. The user-friendly interface provides a comprehensive view of device cards and vehicle cards on the left side, coupled with a map displaying the real-time positions of vehicles on the right side.
Key steps for searching and filtering drivers:
Step 1: Open the Fleet Module. Click on the green letter “F” (tooltip: "Fleet") in the left sidebar to open the → Fleet Module.
Step 2: Utilize Filter. Utilize the designated filters to search for drivers based on their name or based on theit current status.
Click on the magnifying glass icon to search.
Click on the filter icon to open the filter and filter by assignment status, telematics source or drivers which need attention.
3. Drivers Alert
Our Drivers Alert feature empowers dispatchers to proactively identify and address situations where drivers may require assistance or intervention.
The system provides alerts for various scenarios to ensure smooth operations and timely interventions. Alerts appear in yellow for medium severity situations (e.g., when a driver has not moved for a set duration, is delayed, or has deviated from the planned route) and in red for high severity situations (e.g., when a driver has been inactive for an extended period or is missing a time window).
You can specify how quickly alerts are shown in the Automations & Alerts settings. For example, you can configure how much delay is acceptable before an alert is triggered.
Alerts are displayed in the drivers' overview list, represented by a small round icon. Drivers with alerts are visually highlighted in the drivers' overview list and on the map with a small round exclamation mark icon. Dispatchers can filter the list to focus on drivers requiring attention. Additionally, dispatchers can filter all orders in the orders table that have alerts.
Truck driver idle alerts
List of “Driver alerts” features:
Driver stopped moving (idle)
Driver is delayed
Driver deviated from planned route
Driver lost connection
Driver missing time windows
To filter for drivers with alerts, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open the Fleet Module. Click on the green letter “F” (tooltip: "Fleet") in the left sidebar to open the → Fleet Module.
Step 2: Utilize filter. Click on the filter icon to open the filter and enable the filter “Only needs attention” and select a device.
Step 3: Resolve issue. Once the issue is resolved, dispatchers can mark the alert as 'Done' by clicking on “Resolve” in the notification. The alert is cleared instantly, and the driver's status is updated accordingly.
To filter orders with alerts, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open the Orders Module. Click on the blue letter “O” (tooltip: "Orders") in the left sidebar to open the → Orders module.
Step 2: Show alerts in table. Click on the view icon on the top right corner and select “Alerts” to be visible in the current view. Now you should see the alerts column.
Step 3: Filter orders by specific alerts. Click on the filter icon on the top right corner. Find the “alert” filter and select the alert type you want to filter by (e.g. “Delayed”). Then you should see all the orders which are delayed.
Show alerts in orders table and filter by alerts
To enable, disable or change settings of an alert, follow the steps:
Step 1: Open general settings. Refer to the → General Settings and access the 'Automations and Alerts' tab.
Step 2: Adapt settings. Go to the “Alerts” section and find the alert you want to change. Enable or disable the alert and adjust the settings like the idle time if needed.
Email notifications for alerts:
Finally, in case of important alerts you can also receive the alerts as email to make sure they are not overlooked while on the road. The emails show the order/stop details of the current active order and the driver details. Email notifications can be turned on and off in the email notification settings.
4. Inactive Device Feature
The activation of the 'Not Active' status in your fleet management system adds a valuable layer of insight, allowing you to identify and manage inactive drivers or vehicles effectively. Any driver that remains immobile beyond the defined inactivity period will automatically transition to the 'Not Active' status.
How the system determines inactivity
The system continuously monitors the timestamp of the driver’s last tracking position.
When this timestamp is older than the configured inactivity interval, the driver is set to Not Active.
If the interval is set to 0 minutes, the system treats every timestamp as outdated → the driver is marked Not Active immediately.
Important: The DriverApp only sends new positions when the smartphone detects movement. If the vehicle is stationary (e.g., traffic light, traffic jam, or break), no new data is sent. In these cases, once the last known position exceeds the inactivity interval, the driver is marked Not Active.
The Not Active Device function must first be activated in the application in order to be used. Please refer to the description below for more details.
