The Automations & Alerts features in the IMPARGO TMS Platform keep you in control by letting you customize automation rules, set up proactive notifications, and create driver alerts—so you stay informed and ahead of potential issues. This article breaks down the two key components: Automations and Alerts, detailing how each feature enhances transport operations.
1. Automations
Automations help you reduce manual work and keep stakeholders informed during transport execution. You can configure email notifications for stop stakeholders and use geofencing to automate stop and order status updates. Reminders are available if you prefer not to fully automate updates.
1) Automatic Stop Notifications (Email)
Send email updates to the contact stored on a saved address when that address is used in an order.
Triggers
When the order status changes to In progress.
One hour before the driver’s expected arrival (ETA), based on GPS from the IMPARGO DriverApp or supported telematics integrations.
Email contents
Includes a direct link to the stop so the recipient can check current status and ETA without contacting your team.
Notes
Uses the contact email from the saved address master data.
Requires GPS data from the DriverApp or an active telematics connection.
2) GPS-Based Automated Stop Updates (Geofencing)
Automatically update stop and order statuses based on the driver’s GPS position relative to a geofence around each stop. This reduces manual driver actions and improves data accuracy.
Default geofence
By default, each stop has a 500 m radius geofence.
To customize geofence sizes, please contact IMPARGO customer support.
Available automations
Automatically start order on arrival at the first stop.
Automatically mark stop as Arrived when the driver enters the geofence.
Automatically mark stop as Finished when the driver leaves the geofence.
Behavior
If automation is enabled, statuses are set automatically as the driver enters/leaves the geofence.
If automation is not enabled, drivers can still receive reminders (see below) to help prevent missed updates.
Audit trail
In the Order Events tab, automated events are labeled with an icon and the note “This event is automated by geofencing.”
3) Driver Status Update Reminders (without full automation)
If you prefer drivers to confirm statuses manually, enable reminders without enabling automatic updates.
What drivers see
In-app notifications and toast messages when they arrive at or leave a stop and have not updated the status.
2. Alerts
The Driver Alerts feature provides a set of tools to monitor driver activity and quickly respond to potential issues. Drivers with alerts are highlighted in the fleet, and orders with alerts are highlighted in the orders module. Additionally, if enabled in your personal email notification settings, you will receive email notifications about new alerts. Here’s how you can enable and set up alerts effectively:
Enable Driver Alerts: Navigate to the Alerts section in your account settings and turn on Driver Alerts.
Configure Settings: For each alert, customize thresholds like idle time, delay duration, or route deviation distance to suit your operational needs.
Monitor Alerts: Drivers will be highlighted in the system based on the configured triggers, ensuring you can address issues in real time.
Available Driver Alerts
Driver Stopped Moving (Idle): Highlights drivers after a set period of inactivity, whether they are at a stop or on the move. For example, you can set the alert to trigger after 5 minutes of idle time.
Driver is Delayed: Highlights drivers who exceed planned arrival or departure times, with delays tracked using the Time Management feature in the Planner. For example, trigger the alert after 15 minutes of delay.
Driver Deviated from Planned Route: Highlights drivers who stray from the planned route by a set distance. For instance, the alert can be triggered after a 500-meter deviation.
Driver Lost Connection: Highlights drivers who lose connection with the CargoApps system. For example, the alert can trigger after 15 minutes without a connection.
Driver Missing Time Windows: Highlights drivers when their ETA indicates they will miss the scheduled stop time window. This alert requires no additional settings and activates once the time window is exceeded.
These concise alerts allow you to maintain control over your fleet, addressing any disruptions promptly and efficiently.
