Full Container Load (FCL) is one of the most cost-effective modes of freight transportation available worldwide. A full container load is less expensive than an LCL cargo for shipments larger than 13 cubic meters.
Containers with LCL transportation frequently have aggregated shipments from different freight forwarders. This increases delivery time due to multiple un/loading. Because the shipper transports a full load at once, cargo is often loaded and unloaded just once, resulting in a quicker transit time than LCL. It also saves money on operations, time, and other resources.
Furthermore, the risk of contamination from other goods is considerably reduced with FCL shipments. Cotton garments, for example, may smell if stored with spices or chemicals. This is prevented by shipping FCL.
Full container loads are appropriate for specialized commodities such as:
- Oversized items (that require specialized containers)
- Items requiring careful handling (ceramics, chemicals)
- Items requiring refrigeration (food products, medicines)
- Dangerous products
- Expensive and fragile commodities, to name a few
