What is Full Container Load (FCL)?

Full Container Load (FCL) means one shipper books an entire container for their own goods, rather than sharing it. It is the cost-effective and faster choice once a shipment is large enough to fill most of a container.

FCL vs LCL

The alternative is LCL (less-than-container load), where several shippers share one container. FCL is loaded and unloaded once, so transit is quicker, handling is lower and there is less risk of damage or cross-contamination between goods. LCL is usually cheaper only when volumes are small (roughly below 13 to 15 m³).

When FCL is the right choice

• Larger volumes that fill most of a container.
• Time-critical shipments where speed matters.
• Fragile, high-value, temperature-controlled or dangerous goods that should not share space.
